City of Coral Springs Beefs Up Security For Annual Holiday Parade

The last parade by the City of Coral Springs was in 2019.

The city is beefing up security for one of its most popular events — the Annual Holiday Parade, after five people were killed and more than 40 hurt when an SUV drove into a Christmas parade in Wisconsin, on Sunday.

According to Alex Falcone, director of emergency management, the City of Coral Springs has comprehensive security plans in place to protect participants and spectators during the popular annual holiday parade.

“There are provisions in our safety plans to prevent an incident like the one that took place in Waukesha, Wisconsin from taking place in Coral Springs,” he said in a statement to Coral Springs Talk. “We want our residents to enjoy the holiday parade; knowing their safety is our number one priority.”

Falcone added that uniformed and undercover officers throughout the parade route and more than 100 city staff, as well as 30 volunteers, will ensure the safety of parade-goers when the parade takes place Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 7 p.m.

In 2020, the City of Coral Springs was unable to host their traditional annual Holiday Parade and Downtown in December due to the risk of exposing residents to COVID-19, changing it to a holiday drive-thru experience to keep residents at a safe distance from one another.

With over 60 floats, this year’s theme is “Lights, Camera, Selfie!”

The parade will be held along Sample Road, starting at Coral Springs Drive and ending at City Hall on 9500 W Sample Rd. The top three float entries of the night will be awarded by the city.

Coral Springs Holiday Mile Run

Before the Holiday Parade, individuals and families are invited to participate in the Coral Springs Holiday Mile Run along the parade route.

Parking

Free parking will be available at the City Hall garage with limited handicap parking, located at 9500 West Sample Road. Handicap parking will also be available across from City Hall, 9551 West Sample Road. Access from Wiles Road by turning south on Coral Hills Drive. A handicap parking decal or placard is required.

Seating

Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit along Sample Road. Handicap seating will be available at Sample Road, Coral Hills Drive, and the City Hall viewing area. Local restaurants and shops may also have seating available.

Traffic

At 5 p.m., Sample Road, just west of University Drive and east of NW 110th Avenue, and Coral Springs Drive, north of Royal Palm Boulevard and south of NW 37th Street, close for the parade. These roads will remain closed until approximately 10 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
