The J.P. Taravella High School boys’ track and field team won the district 14-4A championship at South Plantation High School on April 14-15. The Trojan girls’ team took second place in the championship.
The boys won the 4×400 relay. Team members included Joshua Reneau, JahRee Pierre, Scardy Fils, and Jamaal Elliott. They also won the 4×800 relay, with team members including Reneau, Pierre, Fils, and Craig Dennis. Pierre took second in the 800 meters and third in the triple jump. Elliott took second in the 200 meters. Fils took third place in the 800 meters and second place in the 1,600 meters.
Olivia Noel won the long jump and is now ranked number four in the event for Florida. She earned second place in the 800 meters. The girls’ team won the 4×800 relay. Team members included Noel, Samira Belizaire, Caileen Canales, and Valentina Casillo. They took second in the 4×400 relay. Team members included Belizaire, Noel, Timya Johnson, and Jocelyn Hart.
Rayelle Languedoc took third in the shot put and fourth in the javelin. Camile Camper took second in the javelin and second in the high jump.
Coach Dawn Spann was pleased with the victory and said both teams are now preparing for the upcoming regional championship at Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar on May 2.
“We have been successful because we work hard and stay together. I hope we accomplish some state qualifiers at the regional championship,” said Spann.
The Coral Springs High School boys team placed sixth overall, and the girls team placed third.
Coral Springs High School girls’ team runners Olivia Higgins won the 800-meter, while Samanta Bandres Chourio won the 100-meter hurdles and earned second place in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Coral Glades High School boys’ team finished 9th, and the girls’ team finished 10th.
The Coral Glades boys’ 4×800 meter relay also found success, finishing second with team members Kai Segui, Giovanni Guevara, Sebastian Coro, and Fabio Castillo. Additionally, Avery Evans placed fourth in the 400 meters.
