Caden Ankele has a tremendous passion for wrestling and is seeking a shot at the state title.
A senior and team captain on the J.P. Taravella wrestling team, Ankele wrestles at 150 pounds and has a 15-3 record. His team placed fifth out of 18 teams at the Margate Matness tournament on January 10.
“I don’t just want to be good; I want to be the best. To win in wrestling, you must have complete dedication and put in the work. I am just focused on wrestling. I don’t have friends outside the team, and my teammates are my family.
Amir Sameem, a junior, is also a team captain and wrestles at 165 pounds with a 12-3 record. He agrees that dedication and maximum effort are critical to success in wrestling. “I love wrestling and being a part of the team. I will put in the work and effort to win,” he said.
Taravella has a new head coach, Michael Bazos, who believes in the team. “We have a dedicated group of wrestlers, and we are preparing for some big tournaments. I believe our team will do well,” he said.
