The city of Coral Springs will spend $88,000 on renovations for the tennis courts at Forest Glen Middle School, officials said.
All six courts at the school at 6501 Turtle Run Blvd. will be refurbished, according to the city. Three of them will remain tennis courts, and three will be converted into six pickleball courts, along with added seating.
As part of an agreement with Broward County Public Schools, Coral Springs will be responsible for ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the renovated courts, removing that obligation from the school district, city officials said.
The city said the deal will help enhance the school’s athletic facilities while also providing community access to residents after school hours, officials said.
A final version of the agreement received unanimous approval from the BCPS School Board Tuesday.
BCPS District 4 School Board Member Lori Alhadeff said during the meeting that she appreciates the city’s efforts.
“I would like to thank the City of Coral Springs for helping out our schools – Forest Glen Middle School – and for assisting in the refurbishment of the tennis courts there,” Alhadeff said.
April Wyche, Coral Springs’ education officer, said the city was “proud to share a longstanding, collaborative relationship with our 19 public schools — one that is rooted in mutual respect and shared purpose.”
“Our model of cooperation is not only effective but also widely admired by other municipalities seeking to replicate the strength of our city-school alliance,” Wyche said.
