When David Moskowitz began Broward Barks’ Facebook page in 2021, he had no idea how monumental his impact would be on pups across the County.
After developing it into an email newsletter and sharing a sign-up form last July, he quickly grew a loyal following over the past year. The blog’s website directory grew quickly with a steady crowd waiting for information on local dog-friendly events, services, and training tips. Moskowitz’s love for animals, helping his community, and promoting affordable pet care turned Broward Bark into a tail-wagging success.
“It just started growing and growing and growing,” Moskowitz shared. “I’m up to like 8300 subscribers, and the open rate of the email is very high. The click rates are high, and hardly anyone unsubscribed, which is pretty cool. People love it, and I get fantastic feedback on it.”
Broward Bark’s directory is divided into sub-sections about a specified area of animal care. Website users are provided with various helpful resources, categorized into sections such as grooming, vet deals, and adoption opportunities. Websites and phone numbers to animal care facilities are directly linked from the blog. Despite a paid upgrade option for more visibility, resources are free of charge.
Moskowitz later understood the gravity of his insightful blog, as evidenced by the large turnouts at local animal care events, with most of the attendees coming based on his recommendations.
“Broward Animal Care had a low-cost or free event for vaccination and this and that, and I promoted it,” Moskowitz shared. “People were standing waiting around because so many people showed up. So I clearly reached a lot of dog parents that needed care.”
Moskowitz also aims to provide addresses to said care locations and highlight promotions to help community members with the heavy weight of expenses.
“Often, there are free mobile pet clinics where people can’t afford vaccines, this and that, Moskowitz explained. “Usually, I promote those, and sometimes fill up their calendars. So that really helps people who are low on money.”
The Broward Bark founder also noted that the blog should be marketed as an online encyclopedia for new pet parents or owners who simply want to do better. Depending on breed, size, and training capabilities, it can be difficult for newbies to pinpoint information that works for a pooch.
“I’ve had dogs my whole life,” Moskowitz continued. “But there are a lot of people out there who just got a dog or are very new to having a dog and don’t know what to do.” Some of the tips I’ve put out there, I’d get replies back like Oh, that’s great information, all positive. So I know it’s helping people, maybe not all of them, but it’s got to be helping with a few.”
The community’s support and the newsletter’s role in providing valuable pet information have led to massive positive feedback. Something that continues to inspire the founder to keep going.
“Anytime a new review comes in, it just really motivates me to work harder, smarter, and faster Moskowitz recounted. It was never a slow time with this business; it was always gogogo, always growing.
