Urine Trouble: Man Accused of Peeing on Broward Health Coral Springs Floor Before Assaulting Police Officers During Arrest

A man was arrested after allegedly urinating on the floor at Broward Health Coral Springs, fighting with police, and being found in possession of marijuana.

According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Ross Bernard Stephens, 21, of Coconut Creek, faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, and possession of cannabis following the August 4 incident.

Records show officers received emergency calls from the hospital staff at 6:00 a.m. regarding a disturbance involving an unruly patient. When officers arrived, medical staff told them Stephens had “urinated all over the floor” and was behaving aggressively toward employees. An officer reported personally observing the urine on the floor.

Police said Stephens was aggressively arguing with staff and took a fighting stance toward hospital security employees. An officer told Stephens to calm down, but police said he remained agitated and swayed back and forth.

When Stephens attempted to walk away, an officer moved to detain him because of his behavior. While officers attempted to place him in handcuffs, Stephens allegedly scratched officers with his fingernails. The officer reported suffering cuts that broke the skin and caused bleeding.

During his arrest, police said a search of a backpack belonging to Stephens revealed marijuana.

The injured officer was treated by Coral Springs EMS while Stephens was taken to the Coral Springs Police Department before being transported to the Broward County Jail.
