The Coral Glades Drama Club is set to perform Tennessee Williams’ classic, The Glass Menagerie, a memory play that premiered in 1944, catapulting the author into a league of America’s most beloved playwrights.
Williams went on to write Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and a Street Car Named Desire; however, before these characters existed, there were Tom Wingfield and the fragile women in his family, waiting on a gentleman caller to swoop in and save the day.
In this dreamlike play, audiences are given ‘the truth in the appearance of illusion.’ Characters are seen through a hazy curtained to create the feeling of tender memories — but rest assured, Laura Wingfield’s sparkly glass animal collection is something to behold.
Directed by Diana Focus, drama teacher at Coral Glades High School, the play is sure to delight audiences who love Southern writers who created their best works in the post-war era.
The cast includes Heidi Gruenbaum, Josh Simon, Zachary Krouch, and Emma Tessier.
Shows are on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, October 28, 29 at 6:30 p.m., and on Saturday, October 30 at 1 p.m. Tickets are available online or at the door for $16. Student and staff tickets are $11.
The J.P. Taravella Theater is located at 10600 Riverside Drive.
