Former Coral Springs Charter girls soccer player Jodi Medina was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Goaltender of the Year for Alabama A&M University.
Medina, who played on the varsity team, is playing her fifth season as a graduate student for the Bulldogs and was the top goaltender in the conference in 2021.
This season, Medina led the conference with eight shutouts and brought her total to 15 in her career. Her best stretch came when she allowed no goals in five straight games and had a shutout streak of 431:33 minutes.
Medina was tabbed preseason Goalkeeper of the Year and won a weekly award on October 27 in a season where she blocked 129 shots.
“I felt like all of the time and hard work that I put in since high school was recognized,” said Medina. “I could not have done anything without having the incredible support of my teammates, coach, and family.”
After graduation, Medina, who has lived in Coral sporting for 21 years, plans on getting an internship or entry-level job after studying Computer Science with a concentration in cyber security in college. She also is focused on getting some security certifications and hopes to continue playing soccer professionally.
