Week one of the High school football season is officially in the books, with three teams playing in their first game.
Coral Glades faced off against South Plantation High School to begin the season for the second straight season. The Jaguars played well and forced overtime, but we could not record their first win in a 20-14 loss.
This is the second straight season the Jaguars have started 0-1 but look to record their first win when Coral Glades takes on their former coach Cam Thomas at Deerfield Beach High School on Friday, September 1 at 7 p.m. The Bucks lost 20-0 in their first game but had one of their three wins last year come against the Jaguars.
Coral Springs Charter fell 36-0 against University School. They are coming off a four-win season and will play Pembroke Pines Charter in their next game on Thursday, August 29, coming off their 42-0 win in their first game against Northeast High School. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
J.P. Taravella dropped their first game against Everglades High School in Yapphet Butler’s debut as Head Coach. The Trojans have not won their first game since 2018 and will play again at South Plantation High School on Friday, September 1, at 7 p.m. The Paladins won 35-0 in these two only meetings last year. Coral Springs High School will begin its season facing another familiar coach, Quentin Short, on Friday, September 1 at 7 p.m. Short previously coached at Marjory Stoneman Douglas and is in his first year at Piper High School.
