Forest Hills Elementary School celebrated its 50th anniversary with two large gatherings on September 6.
Opening in 1974, Principal Barbara Rothman said the celebration was themed around the 1970s, and everyone was encouraged to dress in the fashion of that era.
The students also prepared a time capsule filled with items from 2024 to be buried for future generations to discover.
Students and teachers at the school, located at 3100 NW 85th Ave, celebrated with cupcakes and a performance from the Coral Springs High School band and cheerleading team.
Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Howard Hepburn, school board members Debra Hixon and Lori Alhadeff, and Commissioner Joy Carter soon joined them.
Forest Hills alumni, parents, teachers, students, and administrators came together for a large dance and celebration in the evening. The students and parents were encouraged to dance and socialize. The Forest Glen Middle School drum line and cheerleaders performed while everyone could enjoy cupcakes and dinner from food trucks.
“This was an amazing and wonderful way to celebrate our school’s 50th anniversary. I like seeing everyone having a good time,” said Rothman.
Yolette Nazien, a fifth-grade teacher with two children, said, “This was an awesome event, and it brought us back to the 1970s.” Maxwell Pierre, who has two children at the school and is the PTO treasurer, said, “This was amazing, and we all had a good time.”
