Coral Glades JROTC Cadets Earn Honors Through Discipline and Leadership

The Coral Glades Army JROTC color guard is doing well and showing improvement in early Raider meets.

During a recent competition at Marjory Stoneman High School, the Jaguars earned third place out of 34 teams in the rope bridge challenge. The participating cadets quickly build a bridge from ropes and cross it.

“It takes much work to prepare for the Raider challenges, and I was proud of how we did with the rope challenge,” said Captain Marlon Simpson, a senior. Last year, he was Cadet of the Year for Coral Glades.

“I love being a leader in JROTC, and I want to see our unit do well in competitions this year,” he said.

Captain Nikkolis Armstrong, a senior, is also looking forward to upcoming competitions and events. “I like being a part of JROTC, and I am working to get us ready for the upcoming county competition,” he said.

In August, some of the Coral Glades color guard members participated in an American Legion color guard competition in Tampa. The Jaguars earned 9th place out of 30 teams. “We practiced every day to prepare for the competition, and we performed well,” Sergeant Major Yuriana Tejada.

The color guard leads the National Anthem at Jaguars football games and participates in various school and community events. A key objective of JROTC is to foster leadership and citizenship development in cadets. Cadet Captain Jenesis Dorival, a senior, participated in the competition in Tampa and is looking forward to being a leader this year. “

We are working hard to get ready for the county meet,” she said.
