Coral Glades student-athletes continue to excel both academically and athletically, earning prestigious awards and announcing college commitments.
Haley Swickle was named a $1,000 recipient from the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, while Christa Reese also earned a $1,000 scholarship from the Miami Dolphins. In addition, Noelle Brooks, Allura Buelvas, Jordin Shurpin, Caleb Kohnert, and Konnor Cappiello were all recognized with conference awards for their performances.
Bianca Gibbs has officially announced her commitment to continue her golf career at Vassar College.
“I am so happy to have committed to Vassar College,” Gibbs said. “All throughout high school, I’ve been wondering where I will be spending my college years. Now that I finally know, it doesn’t feel real.”
Gibbs began playing golf at the Country Club of Coral Springs at just five years old. She later trained at the John Prince Golf Learning Center and Okeeheelee Golf Course in Palm Beach County, then continued her development at Oriole Golf Club in Margate.
She went on to have a standout high school career, becoming a two-time BCAA Champion, highlighted by a remarkable 66 in 2024, which captured first place. Gibbs also finished second in the district tournament twice, placed among the top competitors in regionals, and made two appearances at the state championship.
Initially, Gibbs had not planned to play golf in college, but encouragement from friends and family helped her decide.
“This past November and March, I met Coach Klenotiz, some of the girls on the team, and other students at the school, and they were all very kind and welcoming,” Gibbs said. “Vassar not only offers great academics, but also a wonderful community to surround myself with over the next four years.”
In boys' soccer, Logan Mir has also announced his commitment to continue his athletic career at Florida Memorial University. Playing as the center back, Mir was dominant defensively, contributing to three shutouts. The team won 11 games and reached Regionals in back-to-back years.
"Committing to play college soccer feels unreal," Mir said. "It’s pride and excitement knowing the work paid off, but also responsibility. I chose Florida Memorial University because of the coaching staff, the opportunity to grow, and the tough environment."
Sebastian Duran, a member of the baseball team, committed to Young Harris College. He had a strong year for the Jaguars, hitting .278 and knocking in six runs as the team went 14-10.
“Special thank you to my parents, family, and teammates for making this possible, Duran said. “I'd like to thank Coach Ernie and the entire Coral Glades coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to grow and compete.”
