Coral Glades High School has enjoyed a strong run this lacrosse season, highlighted by postseason appearances and a collegiate commitment.
The girls’ lacrosse team played a tight game against Plantation High School in the postseason but fell just short, 10-9. Kennesaw State commit Allura Buelvas led the way with another outstanding season, finishing with 42 goals and six assists. Anne Butterfield ranked second on the team with 23 goals, while Miranda Infante added 17. Gianna Gonzalez and Taylor Evans each scored 13, helping power a balanced offensive attack.
On the boys’ side, Coral Glades fell 19-5 against Cypress Bay High School in the postseason, finishing the year with three wins. Two of those victories came against Coral Springs High School, along with another against South Plantation High School. Maurice Lewa and Nicolas Insua were the Jaguars’ leading goal scorers as the team continued to develop throughout the season.
Coral Glades also had a commitment from Zaffer Sharifeh, who committed to St. Thomas University.
“Honestly, committing feels unreal. Lacrosse was an opportunity that basically just fell in my lap, and I took it, Sharifeh said. “Now I get to go to school for a sport that I love and get rewarded with paid tuition for it. I feel so blessed and am so grateful. “
Sharifeh’s journey to this point has been anything but typical. He only began playing lacrosse in January of 2026, yet quickly developed into a college prospect in just a few months. With the guidance of head coach Logan Park and encouragement from coaches Kyle O’Neill and Phil Colosi, Sharifeh rapidly improved and caught the attention of college programs.
Earning the opportunity to play at the next level, along with financial support for his education, marked a significant milestone for Sharifeh, who described the experience as both rewarding and humbling.
When evaluating his college options, Sharifeh prioritized finding the right fit both athletically and academically. St. Thomas University stood out for its experienced coaching staff, strong team culture, and reputation in the classroom, making his decision a natural one.
Despite his quick rise in the sport, Sharifeh remains focused on continued development. He is working to refine all aspects of his game, with a particular emphasis on offensive skills as he aims to grow into a versatile two-way midfielder at the collegiate level.
