It was an exciting week of sports, with senior night and the start of the District Tournament.
The Coral Springs Charter tennis team held Senior Night on Tuesday, honoring state champions Juhnyee See and Madisen Clark from the girls team and Sebastian Rodgers and Christian Silva from the boys team.
The girls’ team finished the regular season overall but was led by their two seniors in doubles. See, and Clark are 8-0 this year, and See won all of her singles matches.
The boys are also 6-8, with Rodgers winning two singles matches and three in double. Silva has four wins in singles and five in doubles. The District Tournament is set for Monday, April 15.
Coral Glades softball held another senior night on Tuesday, recognizing Carmela Smith, Casey Kazanjian, and Alyssa Densmore. Despite falling 3-0, the Jaguars recorded four hits from Addison Schwartzberg, Dilynn Douge, Dominque Soto, and Sabrina Farrugia to fall to 6-7.
They then went on to play four games in the Orange Classic and beat Lourdes Academy 9-0. Densmore and Farraguia each drove in two while Schwartzberg tossed a two-hit complete-game shutout. The Jaguars also beat Palmetto 8-2 but tied 7-7 against Academy for Innovative Education and lost 6-2 against Westminster Academy.
The Coral Springs High School flag football team went 12-1 in the regular season and was seeded second in the District Tournament. However, they were upset against Deerfield Beach High School 26-6 in the District Semifinals but still qualified for Regionals. They will be the seventh seed and take on Marjory Stoneman Douglas in the opening round on Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m. Coral Glades won only three games and lost 12-0 against in their first playoff game, while J.P. Taravella finished the season 4-7.
In lacrosse, the Coral Springs High School boys team finished the season 0-13 and lost 20-0 to giant St. Thomas Aquinas High School in the opening round of the District Tournament. Despite going winless, the Colts scored 27 goals. The girls lacrosse team did not have a team this year, while Coral Glades combined to win seven games. The boys had wins against Coral Springs High School and J.P. Taravella, while the girls team beat Olympic Heights, Palm Beach Central, J.P. Taravella, Cooper City, and South Plantation High School.
The J.P. Taravella boys lacrosse team went 5-11 and was led by senior Cayden Schroder, who averaged 3.3 goals per game. He finished with 40, while D Linderman recorded 32 goals and had three assists. The girls lacrosse team went 1-5, beating Northeast High School 17-0 for their only win.
