Sonise Benedict, an English language arts and reading teacher at Coral Springs Middle School, is gaining recognition for innovative, student-centered instruction that is making an impact across Broward County Public Schools and beyond.
Benedict, who has taught at Coral Springs Middle School for five years, was the only educator from Broward County Public Schools selected to present at the Future of Education Technology Conference, held Jan. 11–14 in Orlando.
The national conference draws educators from across the country to explore emerging technologies and best practices in education.
In addition to her FETC presentation, Benedict is a 2026 Desmond Grant recipient and a featured presenter at the Broward Schools Teacher Expo, where she shares innovative instructional strategies with fellow educators.
In her classroom, Benedict blends literature and technology to create hands-on, interdisciplinary learning experiences. While studying The Tell-Tale Heart, students use microbit technology to model the human heart, connecting reading comprehension with science and coding concepts.
Benedict, who lives in Coral Springs, said her approach is designed to engage students in meaningful ways while preparing them with skills relevant to the modern world.
