A Georgia man faces assault with a deadly weapon charges after pointing a gun at a man in the parking lot of a Publix in Coral Springs.
In the early hours of July 21, the Coral Springs Police Department received an aggravated assault with a firearm call. According to records, the victim reported an altercation began after he had followed his wife from a party to the Publix parking lot at 2201 North University Drive.
The victim told officers he intended to speak with his wife when a man, later identified as Dargens Dorzelma, 42, of Power Springs, Georgia, exited his vehicle, racked the slide on a black handgun, and pointed it at the victim.
The victim claims Dorzelma allegedly then threatened him, stating, “I’m going to kill you.”
The report notes that the victim’s wife, who was at the party with Dorzelma, did not witness the altercation as she had left the parking lot.
She did, however, confirm that the victim had followed her home and that she had asked Dorzelma to follow her.
The relationship between Dorzelma and the victim’s wife was described as “friends.” It was noted that the victim and his wife are currently undergoing a divorce.
Arrest records show that upon arrival at the women’s home near the 9000 block of Northwest 28th Street, officers observed a vehicle with Dorzelma inside. He was detained immediately, and a subsequent search of the car revealed an unholstered black Taurus 9mm semi-automatic handgun underneath the driver’s seat.
Upon interview, records show Dorzelma initially denied pointing the firearm at the victim but admitted to telling the victim he had a firearm and to leave.
He later admitted to holding the firearm at his waistline during the confrontation and then followed the victim’s wife to her residence.
Dorzelma was arrested and transported to Broward County Main Jail, where he was later released after posting a $10,000 bond.
