It was a wild baseball game at J.P. Taravella High School Thursday night as the Trojans scored three runs in the seventh inning to defeat Charles W. Flanagan High School after a walk-off hit from E.J. Burns.
The Trojans trailed 8-6, heading into the final inning. They were able to tie the game up on a two-run double from Vincent Samuel.
After Edgar Marquez was intentionally walked, Burns had the game-winning hit for the team’s 11th straight victory.
For Head Coach Joe Giummule, he loved the resiliency of his team. The Trojans trailed by multiple runs on three separate occasions and faced an hour rain delay but rallied for the victory.
“We found a way to win tonight when most teams wouldn’t have,” Coach Giummule said. “Most teams would have packed it in. This team doesn’t. They are learning how to win.”
Along with the walk-off hit, Burns also got the win on the mound. He pitched the final two innings as JPT threw four different pitchers.
Offensively, Samuel drove in a team-high five runs with a pair of hits. Luis Rodriguez, Chris Scinta, and Samuel all had two hits, while Matt Rubin scored a pair of runs.
Next, JPT baseball hopes to make it 12 straight wins when they play Western High School on Tuesday, April 6 at 7 p.m.
