Country Hills Elementary School in Coral Springs received a donation to create a new organization.
Make Our Schools Safe (MOSS) provided a $12,366 donation on August 1 to Country Hills to fund the Leader in Me program, a nationally recognized initiative to build leadership, character, and life skills in students. The program has been introduced in elementary and middle schools, but it can also be organized in high schools.
This donation will allow Country Hills Elementary to implement the program and empower students with tools to create a positive, inclusive, and safe school culture, according to Lori Alhadeff, CEO and co-founder of Make Our Schools Safe.
“We are thrilled to partner with Country Hills Elementary to bring the Leader in Me program to their school,” said Alhadeff. “By investing in students’ leadership, we are helping to foster an environment where every child feels safe, valued, and ready to lead.”
Promoting positive leadership is an essential goal for Alhadeff, a Broward County Public Schools board member, who lost her daughter Alyssa to a school shooter. “We want to create a culture of safety in our schools and encourage students to join MOSS clubs in high schools to become leaders,” she said.
MOSS clubs exist at Coral Springs, Coral Glades, and Taravella High Schools in Coral Springs and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. MOSS is also at Monarch and Coconut Creek High Schools.
MOSS has been donating money to local schools to encourage the Leader in Me program.
In May, a $12,200 donation was made to Heron Heights Elementary School, $22,344 to Westglades Middle School, $11,418 to Riverglades Middle School, and $11,250 to Park Trails Elementary School.
