It was only a matter of time before outfielder Luis Rodriguez of J.P. Taravella committed to play baseball in college.
The 2021 graduate heads to Garret College in Maryland this fall.
“Committing and getting to chance to go to the next level is just awesome. I mean, it’s every athlete’s dream, and when the time comes to sign that letter, your hands definitely do get a little shaky,” he said.
Rodriguez played only one season with the Trojans but was a member All-District team after hitting .431 and had an on-base percentage of .577. Rodriguez had five doubles along with a triple and drove in 14 runs.
This past season was also exceptional for him. While he never had the chance to meet former coach Jason Stein, Rodriguez knew how important it was to honor a man that meant so much to the program.
JPT made an impressive run all the way to the Regional Finals and finished the season 19-5.
Rodriguez’s baseball career began at the age of six in Venezuela, and he played travel baseball. He says a big moment for him was when he attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas and was cut from the JV team. He has never forgotten that moment and credits his family for driving him.
Rodriguez will be joining a college program that went 29-23 in 2021 and fell in the NJCAA Division II Regional Tournament.
