Brad Mock, a 27-year veteran of the Coral Springs Police Department, has been selected as the city’s new chief of police.
Formerly a captain in the department, Mock succeeds Brad McKeone, who recently retired from CSPD to become the deputy city manager for Coral Springs.
The chief’s job was posted internally for city employees in December when incoming City Manager Catherine Givens “recognized the Deputy Chiefs from within our organization would best be suited to lead the department” and “Mock was the only candidate to apply,” city spokesperson Lynne Martzall told Coral Springs Talk in an email.
“As a result, [Mock] met with representation from the City Manager’s Office (city manager and deputy city managers) and the Senior Leadership Team (directors) to discuss his leadership attributes and vision for the City of Coral Springs, which is in alignment with retired Chief Brad McKeone,” Martzall said.
Givens offered, and Mock accepted the city’s top law enforcement job on Jan. 10. He will become the eighth police chief in Coral Springs’ history.
Under city policy, McKeone is required to separate from the police department for 30 days before assuming his new civilian role. Mock replaced him in an interim role on Jan. 10.
An official transfer of command ceremony and swearing-in will be held to make the new chief’s role permanent.
During that ceremony, Mock will publicly lay out his plans for the department and “reaffirm his commitment to the community and members of the department,” Martzall said.
The ceremony date has not been finalized, but Martzall said officials expect it to happen sometime in March.
Over the next 30 days, Mock will be posting and interviewing candidates for deputy chief, major, and captain, Martzall said.
“While he does not anticipate making any major changes to the command structure, he is looking forward to meeting with police department staff to hear feedback on their areas of operations, as well as other departments within our organization,” she said.
Mock began his CSPD career in 1998 and served as a patrol officer until 2004 when he was transferred to the Tactical and Gang Unit. He spent three years working as a tactical and gang officer and won a promotion to sergeant in 2007.
As a sergeant, Mock supervised road patrol officers, the Tactical and Gang Unit, and the K-9 Unit. In January 2010, he was promoted to lieutenant and supervised patrol until July 2010, when he was made captain.
Mock has held several key investigative roles in the department: In addition to serving as a tactical and gang officer, he joined the CSPD Special Weapons and Tactics Team in 2000 and held the rank of commander from 2012 until 2022.
He also served as captain of the Special Operations Component and the Criminal Investigations Component, which includes SVU, CSI, and Crimes Against Persons.
Mock holds a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from Florida Atlantic University.
