High School baseball teams from Coral Springs were in action in the BCAA Tournament.
Coral Springs High School was beaten 11-1 against Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in their first game of the tournament but responded with an 11-0 win against McArthur High School. Saul Garcia got the win, pitching 4.1 innings before Pedro Williams got two outs out of the bullpen.
Ryan Guthrie drove in four, while Jaxon Krugman and Shaquille Sala knocked in two. Luis Comella and Natron Wheeler also had RBIs before they closed the tournament with a 9-1 win over Everglades High School.
Guthrie struck out eight in four scoreless innings before Angel Ruguian came in and recorded five outs. Angelo Painter closed it with four outs, three of which came by the punchout. Offensively, Zuany and Guthrie each drove in three, while Krugman and Betancourt also had RBIs. The Colts are now 4-3 and will play Everglades High School in their next game on Tuesday, March 4, at 7 p.m.
Coral Springs Charter gave Marjory Stoneman Douglas a battle for three innings behind Marcelo Young but lost 8-1 in their first game before falling 11-1 against Western High School in their second matchup. However, they closed the tournament with a 3-2 win over Charles W. Flanagan High School. Tyler Stertzbach pitched a strong game to record the win. Jack Foti also pitched before Nolan Mianowski got the save with four outs. Despite only four hits, CSC scored two runs in the fourth and one in the second, with Chris Lora knocking in a run.
J.P. Taravella began their season 4-0 but dropped their first game against Cardinal Gibbons High School 8-1. However, they responded with back-to-back wins, beating Charles W. Flanagan School 6-1. J.C. Martinez homered again, while Jeremiah McFarlane drove in three, and Michael Ghann knocked in two.
Tyler Morgan came within one out of a complete game, allowing no earned runs before Zach Stephens closed it. The Trojans then beat Western High School, 4-2, with Anthony Tizol and Morgan driving in runs. Stephens tossed dour innings and earned the win, with Alexander Almanzar coming out of the bullpen. JPT is 6-1 and will play Piper High School on Monday, March 3, at 6 p.m.
Coral Glades suffered their first season loss in their opening game against Cypress Bay High School, 10-0. The Jaguars responded with an 8-1 win over Fort Lauderdale High School behind six scoreless innings from Jason Lincoln. He struck out 10 and allowed only three hits, while he also helped himself with a pair of RBIs along with Cloevens Challenger.
Shawn Whoriskey and Kaleb Kohnert also scored runs, but the Jaguars fell 4-2 in their final game against South Plantation High School. The Jaguars are 5-2 on the season and will play Santaluces High School next Wednesday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m.
