Four high school baseball teams were in action in the BCAA Tournament, with all the schools winning at least one game.
J.P. Taravella
J.P. Taravella defeated Coral Springs Charter 6-0 in the opening game behind a gem from E.J. Burns. The senior tossed five scoreless innings and allowed only two hits while striking out six. Nathaniel Carroll, Burns, and J.C. Martinez also knocked in runs to set up a matchup with Marjory Stoneman Douglas in the second round. The Trojans managed only one hit and fell 2-0 before a 5-4 loss against St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Anthony Quigley opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the first inning.
“I think the BCAA tournament is a great idea,” Head Coach Joe Giummule said. “I wish it was at a different time as we are still ramping up our pitchers and giving players opportunities.”
Coral Springs Charter
CSC finished the tournament 2-1 and beat Monarch High School 4-2 in their second game before registering a 6-5 win over Western High School in their third matchup. The Panthers trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth but answered with three runs to improve to 4-3 this year.
Coral Springs High School

Head Coach Joe Franco says he is proud of his group for responding after the first game.
“To go 2-1 in four days with such a young group as we have this season is a testament to the work they’ve put in as a team, Franco said. “The team chemistry with this group is something I’ve been so proud of so far.”
