Coral Springs High School had an exceptional week, with head coach Eddie Brown earning his first win on Thursday.
The football team beat Hollywood Hills High School to move to 1-1 on the season following their 22-20 victory.
“It was awesome to get that first win for our kids,” Brown said. “I was pleased with the effort. They communicated well and picked each other up. We need to learn how to finish the game, and we will clean up a few things.”
CSHS will play their next game on Thursday, September 14, against Blanche Ely High School at 7 p.m. This year, they are 1-0 after recording a 42-13 win over Cypress Bay High School. The Tigers also went 10-1 last year, including a 42-0 victory against CSHS.
Volleyball
The girls volleyball team recorded their first win on Tuesday in a tight match against Piper High School.
The Colts, who came into the match with losses against Pembroke Pines Charter and Fort Lauderdale High School, defeated the Bengals in four sets. The teams split the opening two sets before CSHS won the third and erased a five deficit in the fourth to secure their first win.
Their team consists of Sophonie Jeanty, Anistyn Pimpleton, Olivia Moore, Josefine Majdoch, Sa’nya Faison, Sierra Evans, Breanna Scott, Kaylah Pinkney, Rebecca Assena, Kaylee Belliard, Bailey Vance and Alexandria Soblotne.
CSHS is coming off a season where they went 12-10 and will play West Broward High School Nova High School in their next match on Monday at 6 p.m. The Titans are 3-5 this season with wins over Miramar, Plantation, and Hallandale High School.
Cross Country
The cross country team ran in the BCAA XC Week 1 race at Quiet Waters on Wednesday, with Angelica Macarulay leading the way for the girls with a fifth-place finish. Maddie Bernstein followed in 11th place. Matthew Wykpisz placed fourth for the boys, with Gregory Hamilton and Magnus Berta finishing 12 and 13th, respectively. Matthew Campbell and Matthew Thou finished in the top 20, running alongside David LaFleche and Gonzalo Arce.
Swim
The swim team also began their season and is off to a strong start. After falling against Pembroke Pines Charter in the first meet, the Colts finished second on Wednesday under second-year coach Morgan Wizst.
Bowling
Bowling is also underway, with the boys team holding a record of 4-4. They are averaging 501 pins as a team per round, while the girls team has lost all eight of their matches, averaging 562 pins this season.
