The Ramblewood Middle School girls’ basketball team was defeated by Seminole Middle School with a score of 36-29, in the Middle School Athletic Association Broward County Championship game held on December 14. Despite the loss, the Raiders had a remarkable season and ended with a 13-1 record.
Ramblewood Athletic Director Russell Anderson said the game was a battle. “Seminole was well-coached and played well throughout the entire game. We had a lot of turnovers and missed free throws. Summer Williams was playing through an injury and wasn’t 100 percent.”
The Raiders had a good team but were unable to get ahead. “Seminole had us down the entire game; we never had the lead. It was a very defensive game on both sides,” said Anderson.
According to Anderson, Summer Williams has been considered the leader of the team. She is a gifted athlete and may have a bright future in basketball.
Some of the top players on the team are Samantha Hill, Ayailah Daley, Alyssa Wan, and Kiarra Campbell. The playoff games were intense and mistakes were made at times, but the athletes showed determination and passion throughout. Apparently, many of the girls have played together during the summer, as noted by Anderson.
Anderson is pleased with the success of the girls basketball team coached by Xandria Willingham. He believes that at least eight players from Ramblewood are potential candidates for high school basketball. Some of these players are in their seventh grade and will return for the next season.
