Runyon’s Happy Hour: Old Becomes Hip and Cool

Runyon’s is not just your dad and mom’s old school steak house. Many times I’ll mention hitting Runyon’s and someone will say “Man it’s too expensive” or “Isn’t that where all the old people go to eat?”

That line from The Who song “Don’t Get Fooled Again” ran thru my mind when I walked in to Salsa Fiesta’s newest location in Coral Springs.
By: Dan I. Cook On Twitter I follow several restaurant/bars and dread the early morning tweets advertising all the Bloody Mary drink specials in Broward County each Sunday. For instance, Tarpon Bend has a Bloody Mary served with Bacon, celery, olives, and a cheeseburger slider tucked on top. The Downtowner Saloon has a “Make your […]
By: Dan I. Cook I’ve been going to the Coral Springs Styling & Barber for over a decade back when it was located at the northeast corner of University and Sample. This was when Publix was still open and my beloved Carvel Ice Cream was a few doors down. According to their website, they opened back […]
Folks, it’s that time of year again that waiters love to hate at Red Lobster: those two months every fall they have their Endless Shrimp promotion. This is your cue to come on over and devour an entire school of shrimp in one sitting.
You know the feeling when you walk into one your favorite American restaurants where everyone treats you like family and it just feels like home? Well, Sakura has that vibe, with an Asian twist.
By: Dan I. Cook Inevitably, it had to happen: my first bad review for a restaurant. This week I visited Benihana in Coral Springs. I am the biggest fan of Benihana, so when my daughter asked to go here for her birthday with friends of ours, I was like, “Hell yes.” Now let me point […]
After all these years, it’s still one of my favorite wing joints. Call me sentimental, nostalgic, or a softy at heart but I just love Wings Plus.
By: Dan I. Cook I had this nightmare that I went shopping at IKEA because my wife forced me to. Here’s how it went: We were picking out items for my son’s dorm. The parking was crazy. I grabbed a cart and wandered aimlessly through this maze of furniture. Row after row, zig zagging thru […]
My first movie review is “Guardians of the Galaxy.” After seeing this flick twice, I felt compelled to write a review about it. This was the first movie that my whole family wasn’t forced to see together…
I have written so many reviews about Laspada’s and every time I go, they’re still excellent. On top of that, I’ve been eating here since I was at Northeast High School in the 80’s. The same dude who worked at the original one in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea now manages the one in Coral Springs.
First off, I’m not here to beat up restaurants or businesses so they close and we have another empty building in our community. I’m not like that, because I care.
Sitting at the bar outside in Coral Springs can’t be beat. Even though the view is cars whizzing by on University Drive. I don’t care, I like being outside. Plus, the cozy outdoor couches give this place a relaxed vibe.
Penn Dutch to me is a hardcore market. They’ve been in Margate for ten years and the secret to their low prices is processing over a half of a million pounds of meat they receive each week on their own premises, thereby avoiding the middleman.
By: Dan I. Cook I go all over the place to eat and drink but when I come back in town, I usually say, let’s go to the Bear. I really don’t think the locals know how lucky we are to have this brewpub in our backyards. Case in point: I got back from a […]
Just a peek into the way I review and rate places. I like to compare apples to apples. I wouldn’t compare a Dominos Pizza joint to let’s say Sicilian Oven, Anthony’s Coal Fire to Pasquale’s Pizza.
Really its common sense.
It’s really hard to impress me. I eat out all the time and to be honest I get bored. So I read about this joint opening up in my hood; another new restaurant in Coral Springs. I’ve become numb with restaurants opening and closing out here.
This unassuming little restaurant is nestled in a neighborhood with no shortage of fast-casual eateries. It distinguishes itself by serving specialties like Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), Fried Squid, Souvlaki, Steak, Shrimp, Salmon, Lamb Chops, and of course Gyros.
The bursting pita-wrapped sandwiches come in 11 varieties. There are 13 different platters served with your choice of 2 sides (Greek salad, Lemon Potatoes, Fries, or Rice), Spanakopita (spinach pie) and one of my favorites; Moussaka.
