Coral Glades graduate and star pitcher Angelo Smith has officially signed his first professional contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
After being selected in the 18th round with pick 529 of the 2025 MLB Draft, Smith signed with the Angels for $150,000. He shined with Coral Glades as the Jaguars won 41 games, but it wasn’t until his senior year that Coach Joe Franco turned Smith into a pitcher.
Smith began his collegiate career at Indian River State College, where he went 6-3 and had 80 strikeouts in 68.2 innings. He went on to play at the University of Central Florida and made 14 appearances, including one save, while leading the team with a 2.83 ERA.
He is the third player in Coral Glades’ history to be drafted, joining Rian Spanjer Furstenburg in 2009 and Alexander Kline in 2016 as Smith looks to become the first player to appear in the major leagues.
