The amazing success of Coral Springs Charter softball is continuing again this season.
The Panthers improved to 14-0-2 this year with three more wins this week against Palm Beach Central, Coral Reef, and Fort Lauderdale High School, outscoring their opponents 29-3 in the three games.
Stephanie Basso led the team with five RBIs, while Kate Maston, Grace Derstine, Heather Robertson, and Addison Michel knocked in three runs. Bella Bertorelli, Jessica Sacca, and Alivia Taibl combined to drive in five runs, while Sophia Bertorelli went 2-0 on the mound allowing only two runs in 14 innings. Sophia struck out 27 before Courtney Wahlbrink earned the win in relief against Fort Lauderdale.
“We brought our B game tonight, and Ft. Lauderdale came to play,” Head Coach Mark Montimurro said. “Grateful for the fight in our group, though. They kept their composure and executed the offensive plan.”
Also, CSC had a pair of graduates set milestones this past week. Lindsey Garcia, who has won five State Championships, recorded her 100th career hit.

The 2019 graduate from CSC, who is now a senior, set the milestone for the Tigers on March 27 against Missouri. Auburn is ranked 19th in the country with a record of 28-11. Coming into the season, Garcia had 75 hits along with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs. Through 41 games this year, she is hitting .294 with 30 hits, seven home runs, and 31 RBIs.
Garcia previously played five years on the varsity softball team with Montimurro, where her team went 144-7. She hit 23 home runs, including 10 in her senior season, and won a State Champion in bowling with CSC.
Also, 2019 graduate Shannon Doherty was awarded “Order of Pegasus” honors, UCF’s most prestigious student award given annually to those with incredible academic achievement, university involvement, leadership, and community service.
“I know how prestigious this award is, “Doherty said. “It’s very [few and far between], those who come by this. It means to me that I’m doing right by this university, and this university has been nothing but amazing to me.”
Doherty also won three State Championships and hit .451 with 15 home runs in high school. During her four years with UCF, Doherty has hit over .300 thrice and added 25 home runs and 114 RBIs.
