The Original Pancake House in Coral Springs was ordered to close after health inspectors discovered nine violations, including live roaches and other critical sanitary issues.
According to a report dated June 19, the inspector highlighted several alarming findings, including 30 live roaches at the ice machine in the kitchen and two additional roaches in the oven on the cook line at the 10599 W Atlantic Blvd restaurant.
The inspection also revealed that the storage room near the expo line was infested with small flying insects.
The inspection report also noted poor hygiene practices. An employee was seen failing to wash hands before putting on gloves to work with food. The employee removed earbuds and proceeded to handle food without proper handwashing.
Water was noted to be draining onto the floor from a handwashing sink in the kitchen, located next to a doorway.
Basic sanitation supplies were lacking, and food temperature violations were also noted in the report.
The health department immediately closed the location for public safety after the inspection. The restaurant will remain closed until all issues are rectified and a follow-up inspection confirms compliance with health and safety regulations.
