Track and field is officially underway in Coral Springs, with three teams taking first place at the opening meet.
J.P. Taravella had both its boys and girls teams win meets at Plantation High School. Michael Barnes and Akeem Beckford both won their races, while Benjamin Joseph took first in the triple jump. The 4 x 800 relay team came in second with Craig Dennis, Dominic Martinez, Brandon Jameison, and Kevon McKinney. Dennis also placed second in two individual races, along with Scardy Fills and Joshua Reneau, to help the Trojans win by six.
The girls team dominated, winning by nearly 100 points, with all three of their relay teams taking first. Timya Johnson, Melany Alvarez, Patricia Costa, and Jada Thelwell finished first in the 4 x 100 meters, while Tranya Standley, Costa, Thelwell, and Morgan Miller won the 4 x 400 relay. Olivia Noel, Raquel Arne, Caileen Canales, and Camila Castillo came in first in the 4 x 800 relay. Infivusally, Costa won both her races in the hurdles while Thelwell, Noel, and Canales all won, and Johnson and Arne came in second.
The boys’ team from Coral Springs High School hosted their meet along with Coral Springs Charter and J.P. Taravella. Matthew Wykpisz won the two races, along with Jeffrey Belizaire and Sebastian Marrero. Cashmere Sammuels, De’Sean Stephens, and Haozhen Yuan all won. The girls’ team came in third, but Haozhen Yuan and Sofia Evans each won events. Mylineda Etienne came in second, while Destinee Cole, Lydia Gentilhomme, and Kaela Burke each came in third with 90 points.
Coral Springs Charter came in third place, with Shaun Blum, Dante Harris, Fabian Harris, and Anthony Mannarino coming in second in the 4 x 400 relay. Justin Laroche came in second in the high jump, while Jordan Head and Chase Powell each came in third in the 1600 meters and pole vault, respectively.
The girl’s team came in second place, with Heather Churchill, Jordin Sawyer, Kailah Christian, and Kendall Parrott winning the 4 x 400 relay. In contrast, Lily Richardson, Sydney McDougall, Hayley Lockowitz, and Taylor Hartley won the 4 x 800 relay. Elise McDonald, Jordin Sawyer, Chelsea Garbizo, and Anayah Bell placed second in the 4 x 100 relay. Individually, Sydney McDougall, Adrianna Harris, and Trinity Dorvil won, with Parrott, Richardson, and Dorvil coming in second. Lila Conticello, Francesca Schirripa, and Sarah Manigat also had strong meets.
Coral Glades finished fifth with both their 4 x 100 relay team of Keith Raymonvil, Anthony Casseus, Christian Wallace, and Isaiah Godfrey winning along with Jordan Blaise, Joel Harrigan, Aaron Hilaire, and Fabio Castillo finishing first in the 4 x 800 relay. Winston Moise and Madox Becks also won their events, while Isaiah Godfrey and Owen Zabarsky came in second. Jordan Blaise finished third in the 400 meters.
The girls team placed fourth and did well in the relays, with Chloe Martinez, Jasmin Alarcon-Lemos, Zariya Louis-Jeune, and Gianna Gonzalez coming in second in the 4 x 800. Kayla Liberatore, Juliana Mathieu, Kimberly Joseph, and Camille Camper placed third in the 4 x0 100 relay, along with Martinez, Gianna De Belen, Angel Sanon, and Kimberly Joseph. Olivia Chester had a second-place finish in the 400 meters, while Louis-June, Nekalia Watt, and Camille Camper came in third.
