J.P. Taravella Track and Field Team Sets Records at Pre-Season Meet

The J.P. Taravella track and field team is off to a promising start.
The boys’ and girls’ teams broke school records at a preseason meet Taravella hosted on February 7, which included Monarch, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Dillard, Stranahan, and Fort Lauderdale.
The Taravella boys’ and girls’ 4×200-meter relay teams both set school records. The boys achieved 1.28, and the girls, 1.44.
The boys’ 4×200 team includes Jamaal Elliott, Brandon Sanders, Jaden Barclay, and Travis Dillon. The girls’ 4×200 team includes Jada Thelwell, Patricia Costa, Tranya Standley, and Timya Johnson.
The boys’ 4×1600 set a school record of 19.25. Team members include Scardy Fils, Ali Musatafa, JahRee Pierre, and Craig Dennis, Jr.
Olivia Noel set a school record in the long jump with a 5.4 jump. Joshua Reneau set a school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a 56.3 performance.
Coach Dawn Spann was pleased with the team’s performance and believes that if the team works hard in practice, it will do well at upcoming meets.
On February 13-14, the Trojans will travel to the Louie Bing Invitational at Tra Powell Stadium in North Miami. On February 21, the Trojans will compete in a meet featuring many Broward County teams at Coral Springs High School.
