Fabio Castillo is one of the best high school runners in Coral Springs.
Castillo, a junior and the top 800-meter and 1,600-meter runner at Coral Glades High School, is preparing for the upcoming district championship meet. He recently earned third place in the 1,600 at the county competition. In addition to track, he competes in cross-country during the fall.
“I train hard every day, and I am always working to improve,” he said.
Castillo is also doing well in the classroom. He has a 5.0 grade-point average and has completed the coursework for the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) diploma. In addition, he has completed most of the requirements to earn a high school diploma and will take online courses through Broward College next year.
At the same time, Castillo will continue to compete for the Coral Glades cross country and track teams next year.
“I want to be the best student I can be, and I enjoy studying math. I also hope to attend the University of Florida to study sports management,” he said. said.
His coach, Frankie Cunningham, is impressed with Castillo and expressed confidence in his continued progress. “I believe he will continue to improve, and I want to see him qualify for the regional and state meets.”
