High School sports continued during the holiday break, with Coral Springs Charter making a statement in various sports.
The Panthers played in two games in the Legacy Sunshine State Championship, defeating Monsignor Pace High School 51-49 behind 31 points from Justen Morgan.
“We always come out slow, and teams come slow, and teams step on us,” Morgan said. “It’s tough for us to just get back into the game. I felt like we came out with decent energy.”
CSC then beat Gulf Coast 60-54, with Camden Fearon scoring 42 points for the Panthers.
The Panthers are now 7-4 this year under coach Alex Groothius. He returns to Coral Springs after coaching with the Panthers a decade ago. CSC will play Monarch High School in their next game on Tuesday, January 7, at 7:30 p.m.
Coral Springs High School went 1-1 in their two games in the Sunshine State Explosion, defeating Gainesville High School 68-61. Alex Pierre Louis, who recently scored his 1,000 career point in high school, added 27 before the team lost against Newton High School in their second game. The Colts went on to play Victory Christian Academy in their next game and fell by 79-74. They are now 10-4 this year, heading into their next game on Wednesday, January 8, against St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
J.P. Taravella had their only win in their final game against Neumann High School 64-55. They had lost earlier in their tournament to Barron Collier 81-72 and Port Charlotte High School 55-49. The Trojans head into the new year with a 5-6 record and will play Pompano Beach High School in their next game on January 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Coral Glades won four games earlier this month in Las Vegas before playing in the Top of Class Tourney. They won winning 75-57 on Friday. They will face Cooper City High School in their next game on Tuesday, January 7, at 7 p.m.
The lone girls team in action was Coral Springs High School. They lost 45-40 against Palm Beach Gardens High School before defeating American Heritage High School 41-30 behind 16 points from Nethania Noel-Juene.
The Lady Colts will play on Wednesday, January 8, at 6:30 p.m. against St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
Coral Springs Charter wrestling team was busy over the holiday break competing in the Bobby Stanley Duals and also hosting there Panther invite.
As a team, the Panthers went 3-6 in the duals, beating North Miami, Nova, and Charles W. Flanagan High School. Preston Lindsay and Elijah Perez each went 8–1 for the Panthers. Michael Streder, Brandon Hankerson, Logan Bosworth, and Andrew Ridge also won matches.
“All of the wrestlers are starting to understand and welcome the hard work and discipline needed to be successful in this sport,” Head Coach Eric Perez said. “Our newer wrestlers are progressing rapidly and showing a lot of improvements. We had five middle schoolers wrestling this weekend,d and they all showed improvement.”
Elijah Perez placed fourth in the Panther Invite in the 144 weight class, followed by Bryce Leao. Nathan Carlisle, Bosworth, Konner Sullivan, Bryce Spector, Katon Clark, Asher Daly, Xavier Mejas, Adrian Ramirez, and Jake Golden, as the Panthers placed eighth and will head to the District Duals on January 9.
J.P. Taravella also competed with Enzo Amado and Jacob Rosen, each taking first. Victor Dixon placed second, while Caden Ankele, Andrew Hines, and Amir Sameen. Jayden Pellerier and the team also came in fourth place overall.
