After a standout sophomore season at Florida Southwestern State College, Coral Springs Charter graduate Stephanie Basso is returning to Division I softball after signing with Florida Gulf Coast University.
She says she is super excited and grateful for this opportunity.
“The biggest thing that went into my decision was the relationship I have with the coaches, Basso said. “Building that trust with them was really important to me. I wanted to be at a place where I felt supported on and off the field.”
Basso, a 2024 graduate of Coral Springs Charter, began her collegiate career at Coastal Carolina University. As a freshman, she appeared in 10 games, recording her first career hit and RBI against the University of North Carolina.
She transferred to Florida Southwestern State College for her sophomore season and quickly established herself as one of the nation’s top junior college players. Basso hit .391 with 13 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 38 runs scored, adding 5 stolen bases. She helped lead the Buccaneers to a 57-7 record and a berth in the NJCAA World Series Semifinals.
Basso began playing softball at the age of 5 and competed for Boca Impact and Rock Gold Manetta during her travel ball career. At Coral Springs Charter, she spent five years on the varsity team, helping the Panthers win a district championship each season.
“Stephanie is a fantastic catcher, has a cannon for an arm, and has immense power, which she showed this past season at FSW,” Head Coach Mark Montimurro said. “She has the ability to thrive at the Division I level.”
During her high school career, Basso also helped Coral Springs Charter capture four BCAA championships and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player as a senior. She finished her prep career batting over .309 with 15 home runs and 70 RBIs while helping the Panthers win 75 games over her five varsity seasons.
At FGCU, Basso will reunite with former Coral Springs Charter teammate Heather Robertson. The Eagles won 21 games last season and have made three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.
