The Coral Springs Charter softball team’s struggles against Somerset Academy in Regional Finals continued on Thursday, losing for the third straight yearn following a 4-3 loss.
“Didn’t play discipline softball tonight,” Head Coach Mark Montimurro said. “Base running was subpar, pitch selection not good enough, and our pitchers weren’t their normal selves. When that happens against a really good team, you’re going to end up on the wrong side of things most nights.”
Coming in as the top seed in the region, the Panthers fell behind 2-0, but scored three runs in the third to take their first lead of the game. Addi Michel, Bree Martinelli, and Gia Schrippia all drove in runs, but CSC was unable to record a shutdown inning following two runs in the top of the fifth.
Sophia Bertorelli pitched into the fourth inning and allowed two runs, while Courtney Wahlbrink tossed the final four innings and also allowed two runs. CSC had a baserunner in all but one inning, including one in the seventh, but fell short, despite two hits from Bree Martinelli, Wahlbrink, and Addi Brown.
CSC finished the season 23-4 after previously winning the Big-8 Tournament and their 10 straight District Championship before shutout wins over Mater Lakes Academy and St. Brendan High School at Regionals.
The Panthers feature four seniors that are all signed to continue their softball career in college with Heather Robertson, Michel, Mia Rodriguez and Bertorelli.
