A new season features the return of several of the top basketball teams in Broward County.
Coral Springs High School
The Coral Springs High School boys team beat Pompano Beach High School 75-34 for their first win. Head coach Devin Barta credited the team for earning a strong road win and thanked the fans, families, and students for their support.
The Colts won 18 games a season ago and will play in Orlando this week for a tournament before playing Marjory Stoneman Douglas on Tuesday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m.
After another successful season, which saw the Coral Springs High School girls team advance to Regionals, the Lady Colts opened the season with a 79-7 win over South Plantation High School and a 72-11 win over Pompano Beach High School. Next, they will compete in the Turkey Trot Tournament before playing again next month in regular-season games.
Coral Springs Charter
The Coral Springs Charter boys team split their first two games, winning 50-34 against Boca Raton Christian High School. The Panthers scored at least 12 points in all four quarters. The Panthers, though, struggled in game two, losing 59-10 against Palm Beach Gardens High School. CSC had a strong 2024-25 season, winning 15 of its 22 games, and will play Atlantic High School in its next game on Saturday, November 29, at 1 p.m.
The Coral Springs Charter girls’ team was the lone team not to play, and will begin the season on December 15 against South Broward High School. The Panthers made the postseason last year, going 16-7.
Coral Glades
Coming off a session straight District Championship, the Coral Glades boys team won 79-55 in the first game of the Peach Beach State Explosion against East Coweta High School. They followed that up with a 70-58 win over Luella High School, moving to 2-0. The Jaguars are set to play in another tournament following Thanksgiving.
The Coral Glades girls team played in two games and started the season with a 61-21 loss against West Boca Raton High School. The Kgauars struggled in the first half and trailed by 31, but played better in the second half, and were only outscored 20-11.
Coral Glades then played Spanish River Community High School and lost 56-17. The Jaguars are coming off a season in which they went 3-12, following wins over Plantation, Stranahan, and Everglades High School. They will play Dillard High School on Tuesday, December 2, at 6 p.m.
J.P. Taravella
The J.P. Taravella boys’ team dropped a tight game against Marjory Stoneman Douglas to begin its season, losing 66-61, before dominating Hallandale High School. The Trojans won 78-19 and finished with nine wins last season. They will play Charles W. Flanagan High School on December 17 at 7:30 p.m.
The J.P. Tarvaella girls’ team also lost to Marjory Stoneman Douglas 66-14 and then pulled out a tight win over Hallandale High School 35-23. After a one-point lead after the first quarter and a two-point deficit at halftime, JPT had its best quarter of the season, scoring 17 points and hanging on for the close win after winning nine games last season.
