There were plenty of high school sports in Coral Springs this week, with the soccer team competing and the BCAA All-Star Volleyball Game.
The Coral Springs High School boys soccer teams were back in action this week and picked up wins over Dillard High School. The boys beat Dillard 7-0, highlighted by a hat-trick from Thanakrit Lakieo. J.P. Taravella is still searching for their first win in soccer. The boys lost 5-0 against Cypress Bay in their first game before losing 3-1 against Monarch. The girls have only played once and fell 8-0 against Pompano Beach High School.
After a tremendous volleyball season in Coral Springs, three local players competed in the BCAA All-Star Game on Wednesday.
Sierra Evans and Bailey Vance competed from Coral Springs High School. These two seniors helped lead the Lady Colts to five wins this year and were among ten seniors from this year’s team to graduate. Yuliana Sanchez was the lone player from Coral Glades to compete and had a terrific year while the team won 10 games.
The Coral Springs High School cheerleading team also began their season with a West Broward High School competition. They were scheduled to cheer at Coconut Creek High School on Thursday with Monarch’, but the competition was canceled. At the same time, the Coral Glades girls basketball also played in a preseason basketball game against Lake Worth High School while the Sunshine State Preseason Classic officially started.
Coral Springs High School began its basketball season in the seventh annual Sunshine State Preseason Classic at Cardinal Gibbons High School. The Colts went 2-0 and had their first win against Miami Southridge. CSHS won 67-49 behind a team-high 16 points from James Saulsby, while Alex Pierre Lewis added 12. The Colts then beat North Broward Prep 55-51, with Pierre Louis and Romae Brown scoring 14 points. Saulsby and Walter Pierre Louis each had 12.
The Colts, who went 14-9 last season, will open their season against Stranahan High School on November 30 at 7 p.m. They also had a senior from last year’s team commit to play at Keiser University with Noah Yehya.
J.P. Taravella lost both games but featured an extremely young team. They lost 95 percent of their scoring and returned only three players. Camden Fearon led the team in scoring against South Plantation High School and Blanche Ely.
“Both games, we were up at the half, and both weren’t able to come through in the 4th quarter,” Head Coach Eric Kapel said. “Lots of young guys and new players, so we still need to learn how to win. I’m excited to really see the growth of our player we will have through the season.”
The Trojans went 18-8 last season and will play Miramar High School in their first game on Monday, November 27, at 7 p.m.
