High school basketball action continued this past week as teams moved closer to the postseason.
The J.P. Taravella boys’ team opened the week with a dominant 75–30 victory over Hollywood Hills High School before edging Coral Springs Charter 46–45. After trailing by two points at halftime, the Trojans erased the deficit with a strong fourth quarter to improve to 12–5 on the season.
Taravella will next face Piper High School on Wednesday, January 21, at 7:30 p.m. The Bengals are 5–7 this season and lost 58–26 to the Trojans last year.
The J.P. Taravella girls’ team earned a forfeit win over Hollywood Hills High School. Earlier this season, the Trojans also received forfeit victories against Coral Springs Charter and Everglades, along with wins over Plantation and Monarch High School. Taravella is 7–4 and will play Piper High School on Wednesday, January 21, at 6 p.m. The Bengals are 8–6 this season after winning nine games last year.
The Coral Springs Charter boys team began the week with an 88–25 win over Berean Christian High School and followed up with a matchup against Seacrest Country Day School on Friday. The Panthers will next play Pompano Beach High School on Tuesday, January 29, at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles are 1–13 this season, with their lone win coming against Hallandale High School.
The Coral Springs High School boys team picked up two victories, defeating Pompano Beach High School 77–49 and Piper High School 67–45, improving to 13–6. The Colts will next play Palm Beach Gardens High School on Monday, January 19, at 4:30 p.m. The Gators are ranked 169th in the state and hold a 10–7 record.
The Coral Springs High girls team also went 2–0, beating Pembroke Pines Charter 66–31 and Piper High School 59–24. The Lady Colts are now 6–3 and will play Cooper City High School on Thursday, January 22, at 6 p.m. The Cowboys are 4–10 this season.
The Coral Glades boys team defeated Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School to earn its 12th win of the season, but fell by seven points to The Providence School. The Jaguars will face Belen Jesuit High School on Monday, January 29, at 1:30 p.m. The Wolverines are ranked 35th in the state and are 15–4 this season.
The Coral Glades girls team also defeated Chaminade-Madonna, improving to 5–7. Earlier in the week, the Jaguars earned a 51–19 win over Stranahan High School and will next face J.P. Taravella on Thursday, January 22, at 6 p.m.
