Coral Springs swimmers competed in the BCAA Championship on Saturday, highlighted by top finishes and record-setting times.
Coral Spring Charter had a historic day, with the boys placing sixth for the first time. The Panthers had three relay teams compete and finished fourth, 12th, and 14th. The top relay came from the 200-yard medley relay with Anthony Palumbo, John Albornoz, Brian Hamilton, and Chris Chaison. The 200 and 400-yard freestyle relay teams dropped their time by over six seconds.
Individually, Albornoz came in second in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley. Hamilton also was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle, while Palumbo came in fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. He also placed in the top 20 in another race alongside Fernadez and Sebastian Lincoln Villegas.
The girls’ team came in eighth place, with Marianna Montes, Alejandra Gil-Restrepo, and Addison Palumbo all in the top ten. Grace Weeks, Molly Chasion, Sam Springer, and Claire O’Connor improved their times and placed in the top 20.
The Coral Springs High School boys swim team finished 18th and recorded 27 points. Peter Phan, Haozhen Yuon, James Defreitas, and Titus Johnson led the 200-yard freestyle, while Youn impressed in the 400-yard freestyle. Gregory Hamilton, Titus Johnson, Peter Phan, and Joshua Demetrius raced for the Colts.
Lydia Gentilhomme, Alyssa Hogeland, Samy Carvajal, and Sarah Kenney came in 16th in the 200-yard girls medley relay. They also had relay teams finish 17th and 18th, while Samy Carvajal placed in the top-15 in the 100-yard freestyle. Samy Carvajal, Nicole Diaz, Aaniyah Crum, Ashley Made-Rosas, and Kyra Agarwal raced in relays. At the same time, Autumn Watson, Amber Burke, Nehyla Marcelus, Kenney, and Becca Assena competed in individual races.
Ethan Persten made history for Coral Glades , placing second and third in a pair of races. He and a relay team, along with Benjamin Denevi, Galen Tortorella, and Miguel Moreira, finished sixth. Two other relays also finished sixth. Galen Tortorella was seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Daniel Silva placed seventh in the 1-meter Diving.
The girl’s best results came inDiving, with Kacey Stewart Bryan coming in sixth, followed by Gianni Gonzalez. Nikki Harrypersad placed in the top ten in the 100-yard individual medley while they had two relay teams finishing 13th
JP Taravella also had the boys finish 12th overall and the girls place 10th. Jayden Davis, Zac Bricher, Zane Samms, and Josh DeSouza came in fifth in their relay race before other teams placed outside the top ten. Davis came in second and fifth in two of his races, and Josh DeSouza finished in ninth in the 400-yard freestyle. Samms also came in 11th in a race, and Zac Bricher finished 14th.
The girls’ team, which included Grace Weeks, Addison Palumbo, Mariana Montes, and Alejandra Gil-Restrepo, finished sixth in a relay. One relay team came in seventh, and another placed 14th. Rawani Ceballos had her best result in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing eighth and 11th in the 50-yard freestyle.
All four teams will continue racing in the regular season and beat up for the postseason, featuring Districts, Regionals, and the State Championship.
