The Coral Springs Charter softball team wrapped up their season after another appearance in Regionals.
The Panthers had won five consecutive state championships from 2015 to 2019. However, the 2020 season was canceled due to the pandemic. Despite winning regionals for three years in a row, they were eliminated this time.
In their first Regional game, the Panthers shut out Immaculata-La Stalle 15-0. The Panthers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first inning, with Cameron Thiele recording two hits and four RBIs. Kayleigh Cuccia also had a two-run triple, with Jessie Sacca, Stephanie Basso, and Kate Maston all driving in runs. CSC went on to score six more in the bottom half, with Bree Martinelli, Jazzy Chung, and Jordan Shurpin all coming off the bench and combining to drive in four. Courtney Wahlbrink and Gia Schirripa did not allow a hit and struck out seven in the three-inning game.
In their second game, CSC beat Westminster Christian Academy 8-0 Gio Gurgel hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Panthers an early 2-0 lead. She also doubled later in the game while CSC tacked on a third run in the fourth on an RBI single from Addison Michel. The Panthers doubled their lead in the fifth after a pair of RBIs from Heather Robertson and one from Alivia Taibl to make it 6-0. Cameron Thiele also added RBI hits an inning later, while Courtney Wahlbrink dominated with six shutout innings and five strikeouts. Sophia Bertorelli came in and made her first appearance of the season and pitched retired the side.
In the final, CSC had a rematch against Somerset Academy. After losing 1-0 in extra innings, CSC struggled offensively and was held to only four hits through the first five innings. The Stallions took the lead in the sixth and then added three more runs in the seventh home run. The Panthers cut the lead in half in the home half but went on to record the last out on the base paths and finished their season 26-4.
They will have three players moving on to play college softball. Taibl will attend Stetson University, Basso will play at Coastal Carolina University, and Maston will attend Florida Gulf Coast University.
