
Coral Glades Boys Basketball Team. {Athletics}
Local rivals met on the hardwood this week as Coral Glades delivered a decisive win over archrival Coral Springs High School on December 11.
The Jaguars trailed by four at halftime after managing just four points in the second quarter, but they flipped the game with a dominant 21–4 run in the third quarter and poured in 28 points in the fourth to secure a 26-point victory.
Gavin Reed led Coral Glades with 23 points, while Kyler Theopile added 14 and Ali Atallah chipped in 11. The win marked the Jaguars’ fifth victory in seven games this season. The reigning two-time district champions are coming off an 80–26 blowout of Marjory Stoneman Douglas earlier in the week.
Coral Glades had four players reach double figures earlier this season, including Donovan Swain, Reed, Theopile, and Brandon Pitts, before dropping a pair of close games in a tournament.
Coral Springs High School, though the Colts picked up a 74–52 win over Northeast High School earlier in the week, also defeated Charles W. Flanagan High School 61–26 for their sixth win this season.
The Coral Springs Charter boys team is 3–5 this year, with victories against Boca Raton Christian, Santaluces, and Oxbridge Academy. The Panthers most recently dropped a 57–51 decision to South Broward High School on Monday.
Coral Springs Charter has one game remaining this month. One of the Panthers’ losses came at the hands of J.P. Taravella, whose boys’ team is 4–3 this season. The Trojans’ three wins include victories over Hallandale, Dillard in double overtime, and South Broward High School in their most recent game.
On the girls’ side, Coral Springs High School is 3–2 this season. The Colts earned lopsided wins over South Plantation and Pompano Beach High School before defeating Charles W. Flanagan 62–26 and Fort Lauderdale High School 59-19.
The Coral Glades girls team has two wins this season: a three-point victory over Boyd H. Anderson on December 1 and a victory against Pompano Beach High School. J.P. Taravella’s girls team is 1–4, with its lone win coming by three points against Hallandale High School.
