Coral Springs baseball and softball teams excel nightly as the postseason nears.
Coral Glades
Coral Glades baseball recognized their seniors Jack Kollwitz, Matthew Palasay, Damieon Zapata, and Aydan Gonzalez on April 18.
Despite falling 11-0 in the game, the Jaguars are 10-9 this year and have two wins over South Plantation and one over Stranahan, Somerset Academy Canyons, Piper, Plantation, Stranahan, Seminole Ridge, Fort Lauderdale, and Stranahan High School. In their wins, they have outscored their opponents 154-10.
“This year’s senior class has been tremendous in terms of how they represent our program here at Coral Glades High School,” Head Coach Joe Franco said. “On the ball field and in the classroom, I’ve been so proud of how they have led our team and been great examples for the younger players on the team.”
The Jaguars will play their next game on Thursday, April 25, at 5:30 p.m. and will head into Districts as the fifth seed. They will face Charles W. Flanagan High School in the opening game on Monday, April 29, at 4 p.m.
J.P. Taravella
The J.P. Taravella softball team recently celebrated their senior players. Three seniors were recognized, including two who will be playing at the next level. Dominique Franklin, who played on the varsity team for two years, will be attending Livingstone College in North Carolina to play college softball. Mya Barrios, who played on the varsity team for four years, will be attending St. Thomas University to play college softball. Destiny Tizol was also recognized and will be attending St. Thomas University to major in nursing. The Trojans also honored seniors Tanya Brown and Angeline Delgado.
Despite falling 21-3 in the game against Cypress Bay High School, the Trojans already have five wins, coming against Coral Springs High School, Plantation, Piper, Deerfield Beach, and Nova.
The baseball team held senior night on Wednesday during their game against Somerset Academy and honored E.J. Burns, Anthony Quigley, A.J. Perry, Javier Miranda, and James Lacey before a 20-2 win. The Trojans are 15-10 this year and will play either Western or Cypress Bay High School in the District Semifinals after securing the two-seed.
Coral Springs High School
Coral Springs High School baseball was scheduled to host Senior Night but pushed it back. Still, Andrew Allison tossed a no-hitter, Ruben Zuany homered, and Shaquille Sala also had an RBI in a 3-0 win over Deerfield Beach. During their senior night, the Colts lost 1-0 against Copper City High School but honored Andrew Allison and Joseph Martinelli. They will play Monarch High School in the opening round of the District Tournament on Monday, April 29, at 4:30 p.m.
The softball team recognized Mariah Rivera, Isabella Barlak, Regan Henderson, and Tania Altidor. Although they are winless this season, they scored a season-high 12 runs against Plantation High School on April 15. They will face Coral Glades in the opening round of the District Tournament on Monday, April 29, at 6 p.m.
Coral Springs Charter
While Coral Springs Charter already honored its seniors, the team is having another terrific season, sitting at 13-9 through its first 22 games.
The Panthers began the season going 2-1 with wins over Spanish River and Fort Lauderdale High School before playing in Tier 1 of the BCAA Championship. While the reigning three-time State and National Champions Marjory Stoneman Douglas took first place, the Panthers still won two games over Monarch and Western after being shut out by J.P. Taravella. Since then, the Trojans have won over Providence Day, Western, Tradition Prep, Monarch, Calvary Christian Academy, Traditions Prep, and Cooper City.
Jack Grasso currently leads the team in batting average, while Reid Dadic and Addison Karbalaieasghar are hitting over .300. Andrew Raucci has hit the lone home run for the Panthers, while Vicent Toloza leads the teams within era. Ethan Sara and Carter Wokcik also have sub-2.00 eras.
They are seeded second in the District Tournament and will play St. Johns Paul II Academy in the semifinals on Tuesday, April 30.
