
Coral Springs High School Girls Soccer Team. {David Volz}
Several local high school soccer teams recognized their seniors this week as they closed out the regular season and prepared for postseason play.
The Coral Springs Charter girls’ team honored its seniors before defeating South Plantation High School 2–0, closing the regular season on a 14-game win streak. CSC has not allowed a goal in its last seven matches, while the offense produced 40 goals during that stretch.
The Panthers will be seeded fourth in the upcoming District Tournament after going 14-3 this season and will play Calvary Christian Academy in their opening game on Tuesday, January 20, at 5 p.m.. The winner will face top-seeded Cardinal Gibbons High School, while Pine Crest will face either NSU University or Franklin Academy.
The Coral Springs Charter boys team also defeated South Plantation, earning a 2–1 victory on Wednesday for its seventh win of the season, before falling 3–0 to Kings Academy in the regular-season finale.CSC is now 7-7-5 and is seeded fourth in the District Tournament. They will play Cardinal Gibbons High School in the opening round on Wednesday, January 21, at 6 p.m. The winner of this game will play top-seeded NSU University, while Pine Crest has a bye and will face either Franklin Academy or Calvary Christian Academy.
The Coral Springs High School boys team held Senior Night in December, recognizing Sam Certuche, Jorge Flores, Brayden Willie, Timothy Stamper, Wesley Dinely, Ethan Perez, Hector Peña, Lio Eliassaint, Juan Gomez-Beltran, and Baran Celik. This week, the Colts defeated Coconut Creek High School 3–2, led by two goals from Flores. Perez added a goal, while Lucas Vasquez recorded two assists and Othneil Thomas contributed one.
The Colts are seeded third and will face Fort Lauderdale High School in the opening round of the District Tournament on Wednesday, January 21, at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to play Deerfield Beach High School, while top-seeded Monarch High School will face either Boyd H. Anderson or Piper High School.
The Coral Springs High School girls’ team honored seniors Kayla Hillard, Brooke Eloy, and Victoria Dacosta. The Colts closed the regular season with a 9–1 loss to Everglades High School. The Colts are seeded fifth and will play Piper High School in the opening round of the District Tournament on Thursday, January 22, at 5 p.m.Fort Lauderdale High School will face the winner, while Monarch High School has a bye and will play either Deerfield Beach or Boyd H. Anderson.
The Coral Glades boys team also celebrated Senior Night earlier this season and wrapped up the regular season with a 3–1 win over Cypress Bay High School, finishing with a 9–6 record. The Coral Glades girls team ended its season at 9–7–1 following an 8–0 loss in its final match. The J.P. Taravella boys team, which lost to Coral Glades earlier in the week, closed the regular season with a 1–1 draw against Boyd H. Anderson High School, while the J.P. Taravella girls team went 0-9-2 this year.
Coral Glades and J.P. Taravella will meet in the opening round of the District Championship. The boys’ match will feature third-seeded Coral Glades against J.P. Taravella on Wednesday, January 21, at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to face Spanish River Community High School. The Lady Jaguars will play J.P. Taravella to begin the District Tournament on Tuesday, January 20, at 5 p.m.
