
Coral Springs High School Girls Soccer Team. {David Volz}
Soccer season is officially underway in Coral Springs, with both the boys and girls teams competing in their first week of games.
Coral Glades
The Coral Glades boys team beat Somerset Academy 3-1 behind goals from Jaden Lloyd, Santiago Sanchez, and Dekari Lawrence. AJ Greenfield made four saves in net to help the Jaguars start 1-0 for the third straight season. They followed that up with a 6-0 win over South Plantation High School in game two.
The Jaguars went 13-6-2 last season and reached Regionals, and will play Charles W. Flanagan High School on Thursday, November 13, at 6 p.m.
The Coral Glades girls team, though, fell 3-2 against Somerset Academy. The game was tied 2-2 at halftime before the Jaguars allowed the only goal in the second half. Jasmine Arroyo had a goal and an assist, while Emilana Paaiva also scored. Aubrey Marrero added an assist with Isabella Kaplan making 10 saves in goal.
The Jaguars, though, went on to win 1-0 over David Posnak Jewish Day School on Wednesday, recording their first win with Mikayla Estrada scoring the only goal. Riley Brighton and Kaplan recorded a shutout. Coral Glades then tied South Plantation High School 1-1 in their most recent game on Monday.
Coral Glades went 5-8-3 last year and will play Charles W. Flanagan High School on Thursday, November 13, at 6 p.m.
Coral Springs Charter
The Coral Springs Charter boys team beat Pine Crest School 4-2 before falling 2-1 against Archbishop McCarthy High School. and 2-1 against South Fork High School. The Panthers won six games a season ago and will play at Monarch High School on Wednesday, November 12, at 4:30 p.m. The Knights are 2-0-1 this year and won 1-0 last season.
The Coral Springs Charter girls team went 14-6-2, including a win in Regionals, but dropped their first three games this year, losing 2-1 to Pine Crest, 1-0 to Archbishop McCarthy High School, and 1-0 to Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Next, CSC will play Monarch High School on Wednesday, November 12, at 4:30 p.m.
J.P. Taravella
The J.P. Taravella boys soccer team scored three goals in the first half and two in the second to defeat Hollywood Hills High School 5-0. This was the second straight year the Trojans have started 1-0 after recording three wins a season ago, but they lost 5-2 against Pembroke Pines Charter in their second game. The Trojans will play McArthur High School on Wednesday, November 12, at 6 p.m. The J.P. Taravella girls’ team will play its first game of the season against on Wednesday, November 12 at 6 pm. after going 7-7 a year ago.
Coral Springs High School
The Coral Springs High School boys’ team lost 2-1 to Pompano Beach High School. Jorge Flores scored the lone goal on an assist from Angel Castillo, while Baron Celik made five saves in net. The Colts had a strong season last year, going 9-6-2. They will play Fort Lauderdale High School in their next game on Wednesday, November 12, at 4 p.m.
The Coral Springs High School girls’ team fell 4-0 against Pompano Beach High School. The Lady Colts had five wins a season ago and will play Dillard High School on Wednesday, November 12, at 7 p.m.
