The Broward County Athletic Association handed out awards while over a dozen players competed in All-Star Games.
Awards
The first award was the Brian Piccolo Award, honoring senior athletes for their outstanding achievements in football, academics, and community service. Named after the late NFL player and South Florida native Brian Piccolo, Osamudiame Salami was selected from Coral Springs High School. Jordan Woods was a finalist from Coral Springs Charter, while Keyshawn Sinifort was picked from Coral Glades and Christoper Cenoble from J.P. Taravella.
Coral Springs also had over a dozen students selected as Scholar-athletes. Brendan Kenny. Bergyne Darang, Sophie Franklin, Mark Saintelus, Rhael Sayers, Princess Greene, and Sierra Evans were chosen from Coral Springs High School. Coral Glades Keyshawn Sinifort Sinifort was awarded the $1,000 Miami Dolphin Scholarship, while Zion Tomlin won the $4,000 Chris Hixon Scholarship. Their scholar-athletes were Ali Abdallah, James Araujo, Kasey Ardron, Kaitlyn Harter, Casie Kazanjian, Snifort, and Brianna Zabaleta.
Maiden Clark, Eli Groothius, Jack Maniscalco, Antonia Milosevich, Kaitlyn O’Neil, Sophie Ribeiro, and Shasha Rush were picked from Coral Springs Charter, while Marissa Amisial, Jaiyhir Blake, EJ Burns, Olivier Eloy, Marco Ferreira, Misuika Leonidas and Mackenzie Nezat were picked from J.P. Taravella.
All-Star Games
In the BCAA All-Star Game, Coral Springs High School flag football had Knotich Matthis, Maddison Hill, and Princess Greene playing for them, along with coaches Jasmine Deronvil, Sarah Debrosse, and Crowder. The Lady Colts went 11-3 and reached Regionals before being beaten by Marjory Stoneman Douglas by six points. Coral Glades went 6-8 this year and had Aniya Campbell, Samantha Menard, Olivia Mansard, Tiese Dual, and Knotich Matthis. Katelyn Austin and Nevaeh Maye played for J.P. Tarvella after the Trojans won four games.
In volleyball, Coral Springs High School won a District Championship and made it all the way to the Regional Semifinals after going 17-9. John Decelestino and Mark Saintelus competed in the game following terrific seasons. Decelestino had a team-high 703 assists and finished third in digs with 193. Saintelus had 105 kills, 51 aces, and 104 blocks for the Colts this year.
Coral Springs Charter also won a District Championship and lost to Coral Springs High School in their first game of Regionals. The Panthers went 14-7 and had Aadhith Aranhcherry and Sergio Monnar play. Arancherry led the team with 361 assists while also recording 93 digs, 62 kills, and 25 blocks. Mooner recorded 195 and also had 34 assists. J.P. Taravella had Anthony De Geauvia and Marco Ferrera selected after the Trojans went 8-5 this season.
In baseball, Andrew Allison and Joe Martinelli were picked from Coral Springs High School. The Colts won seven games this year, with Allison hitting .260 with a home run. He also had eight RBIs while he also picked up a win on the mound and pitched to an era of 3.53. Martinelli hit .242 and knocked in four runs. Andrew Raucci and Vincent Toloza were picked from Coral Springs Charter after their strong run to Regionals. They combined to pitch in 16 games, with Toloza winning twice and Raucci finishing second on the team with 13 RBIs.
Burns, Javi Miranda, and AJ Perry were all picked from J.P. Taravella. The Trojans also made it to Regionals, led by Burns, who is signed to attend Florida Gulf Coast University. The senior hit .300 and drove in nine runs while also recording three victories on the mound and pitching to an era of 3.17. Miranda recorded one win and drove in six runs. AJ Perry went 1-0 and pitched to an era of .47 in eight appearances.
In softball, Regan Henderson played for the Coal Springs High School softball team after the Lady Colts had only one win in 12 games this year. Carmela Smith, Alyssa Densmore, and Casie Zaniakian represented the Coral Glades softball team. They drove in 29 runs, with Smith finishing second on the team in batting at .394. The Jaguars went 12-11-1 this year. Stephanie Basso, Alivia Taibl, and Kate Maston were picked from Coral Springs Charter. Basso is going to East Carolina and hit five home runs to help the Panthers make the Regional Final. Taibl will attend university, while Maston will play at Florida Gulf Coast University. Gio Gurgel, who hit nine home runs, will compete in the Home Run Derby after hitting nine home runs this year.
