
Coral Springs Charter Boys Soccer. {David Volz}
High school sports returned to Coral Springs this week, highlighted by matchups between Coral Springs Charter and Coral Glades in soccer.
Soccer
The Panthers came out on top, as the boys’ team won 2–1 over Coral Glades and followed that with a 3–2 victory against Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School, improving to 6–4–4 on the season. However, they fell in their next game against St. Thomas Aquinas High School 2-0. And 3-0 against Fort Lauderdale High School. The CSC girls’ team also excelled, defeating the Jaguars 5–0 and then the Lions 8–0 on Wednesday, bringing their record to 11–3 before following up with an 8-0 win against Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School and a 5-0 win over Fort Lauderdale High School.
Coral Glades finished the week with wins over Western High School. The boys won 5-3 behind Patrick from Jayden Lloyd, while Santiago Sanchez and Jonathan Hoyos scored one each, and the girls won 5-0. However, the boys’ team lost 3-0 to Monarch High School on Friday, falling to 8-5 this year, while the girls’ team won 6-0 to improve to 8-6-1.
Next, both teams will play against J.P. Taravella on Monday, January 12, starting at 5 p.m. The Trojans were in action in a rivalry matchup against Marjory Stoneman Douglas, but came up short in both games. The boys lost 5–1, while the girls fell 12–0.
Meanwhile, Coral Springs High School began the new year with a 3–0 win over Northeast High School. The boys improved to 6–2–2, while the girls played to a 1–1 draw, giving them a record of 2–6–3. Both boys’ soccer teams will play Coconut Creek High School on January 12, starting at 5 p.m., while the girls’ team will face Everglades High School on Wednesday, January 14, at 5 p.m.
Basketball
On the basketball court, Coral Glades had each of its teams record one-point wins, as the boys team beat Cardinal Gibbons High School 51-50 on Friday night for the team’s 11th win of the season.
The basketball team pulled off an incredible comeback, beating Monarch High School 45-44. The Jaguars trailed by 21 points at halftime and rallied back for a win before losing 65-8 against Cardinal Gibbons High School the following night. The boys will play Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory on Thursday, January 15, at 7:30 p.m. The girls will face Stranahan High School on Tuesday, January 13, at 5:30 p.m.
The Coral Springs High School boys’ team beat Cypress Bay High School 72-71. The Colts are 11-6 and will play Pompano Beach High School in their next game on Wednesday, January 14, at 7:30 p.m. The girls’ team went 1-1, losing 58-56 against Cypress Bay High School before beating Pembroke Pines Charter 69-31. The Lady Colts are 5-3 and will play Piper High School on Thursday, January 15, at 6 p.m.
J.P. Taravella had both the boys’ and girls teams go 2-0 this past week, with the boys beating Northeast High School 59-43 and Coconut Creek High School 65-61 to improve to 10-5 this season. The girls defeated Plantation High School 56-12 and Monarch High School 45-43, evening their record at 4-4. Next, both teams will face Cooper City High School on Tuesday, January 13, starting at 6 p.m.
The Coral Springs Charter boys’ team dropped all three games, losing 63-49 to Deerfield Beach, 80-45 to Pine Crest, and 56-44 to Leonard High School. The Panthers are 5-10 heading into their game against Berean Christian High School at 8 p.m.
